Music class for students in Kindergarten-4th grade is held weekly. Class time is spent learning about notation, various musical instruments, and their characteristics, composers, performance, types of music and music from around the world. Students in 5th grade participate in a vocal music class. Students learn proper performance techniques, such as timing, dynamic, expression, diction and concert etiquette. Students in 6th-12th grade have the opportunity to participate in choir. During their time in the choral program, students learn about their voices and how to use them in a group and solo setting. Students practice sight-reading on a weekly basis using solfege in order to improve their music reading abilities and musicianship. Students in 4th-12th grade may elect to participate in our strings program. While participating in strings, students will spend time learning notation and methods to play their instruments.
